What is this?

On September 13 and 14th, Region IV hosted its 2nd Annual State Programs Meeting with DOT representatives from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virgin Islands. The Region extended a warm welcome to the four representatives from the Virgin Islands, the newest addition to the Region IV family.

The two-day meeting included sessions on partnering with the State DOTs, Coordinated Planning, Civil Rights, Project Development, Grant Making, NEPA, Project and Construction Management, and Safety and Security. Representatives from FEMA participated in our working lunch session on Friday and brought information on the role of FEMA during emergency response and recovery.

In the closing session on Friday, the representatives from the DOTs and the State Programs team drafted an action plan for FY 08 that includes holding similar meetings twice a year. North Carolina volunteered to host the next meeting in March 2008 and the Region looks forward to inviting the State partners back to Atlanta in September 2008. In addition, the State Programs team will be working with the States to develop training for State DOT staff and to arrange quarterly meetings for interested States.

Thank you to all of those who participated in this very successful and productive event!
