Subject: Notice of Retirement of the Region III Deputy Regional Administrator – Herman Shipman
Dear Transit Colleague:
It is with heartfelt joy and also a twinge of sadness that I am spreading the news of our latest retiree. After 42 years of Federal Service, 6 with the Marine Corps and 36 years with FTA, the Region III Deputy Regional Administrator – Herman Shipman will retire in November, 2007. Herman has been a member of the Region III Office in Philadelphia since it’s inception as the first UMTA/FTA Regional Office in the 1970’s. Since then Herman has been involved in all of the aspects of the Regional program at one time or another, as he rose to the position of Deputy Regional Administrator.
If you have worked with Herman, I know you understand the loss his retiring will create for both our office and for the transit operators in Region III. His energy, enthusiasm, knowledge, intelligence and sense of humor will be very difficult to replace.
We will be having a retirement celebration for Herman on Thursday, November 15, 2007 from 12:00 until 4:00 at Maggiano’s Italian Restaurant, 12th and Filbert Streets, Philadelphia, PA. Please see the attached flyer for further information regarding costs and due dates for receiving checks. For any grantees who wish to attend the retirement festivities, you are also invited to attend an instructional meeting on Grants Management on the morning of November 15th and a discussion on JARC and New Freedom Programs on the morning of November16th. Both of these sessions will be conducted by the Regional staff and will take place in the Region III Office.
