Subject: New Grantee/Regional Open Triennial Review Workshop
Dear Transit Colleague:
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) is pleased to welcome you as a new recipient or new employee at an existing transit authority. As a recipient of FTA grant funds, you have joined a nation-wide network of agencies receiving grants for operating assistance, capital improvements, and planning activities.
Participation in the Urbanized Area Formula grant program brings with it an obligation to comply with twenty-three areas that are subject to federal review. Among the areas subject to federal review are civil rights (ADA, Title VI, DBE), spending (procurement, Buy America program, etc.), and safety (Drug and Alcohol program, Safety and Security).
To ensure that grantees receiving urbanized area formula funds are spending their federal grant funds in a manner consistent with federal law, FTA is mandated by statute to review those grantees once every three years.
To assist you in complying with applicable federal requirements, the FTA holds workshops where grantees receive up-to-date information about federal requirements and industry “best practices.” The success of the program and grantee feedback have led us to offer a new workshop this year intended for agencies that are new to the program. New employees from more established programs are also encouraged to attend, in addition to recipients outside of the Urbanized Area Formula grant program.
Attendance at the workshop will be limited to forty, with space prioritized to those grantees undergoing Triennial Reviews this fiscal year. Our Workshop will take place in Washington DC at the following time and place:
May 7-8, 2007 The Churchill Hotel
1914 Connecticut Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20009
(800) 424-2464 or (202) 797-2000
Industry experts will conduct the Workshop and share their knowledge of the Triennial Review Program, the latest federal regulatory changes, and the best practices in FTA Grants Management. You will be given a comprehensive workbook that will assist you in preparing for your Triennial Review.
I hope you will take advantage of this wonderful training opportunity. Seating is limited, so please make your reservations as soon as possible by returning the attached registration form.
We look forward to seeing you at the Workshop.
Sincerely,
Herman C. Shipman
Acting Regional Administrator
