The National Transit Institute (NTI) is presenting several training opportunities over the next couple of months:
“Financial Planning in Transportation” in Denver, CO on April 17-19, 2007.
Tuition shall be waived for federal, state and local government employees who work in transportation or related areas. Fee for contractors and consultants: $650.00.
This training program will instruct practitioners on how to do financial planning in support of the development of transportation plans and programs. The training program will also help to develop national consistency in technical and procedural approach, as well as assist transit operators, Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), state Department of Transportation (DOTs), Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) field staff in understanding what are acceptable planning assumptions on the revenue side of fiscal constraint and also to coordinate their efforts with each other.
The course is structured for planning staffs and financial analysts of transit operators, MPO’s, and other governmental agencies (state DOT’s, cities and counties) who assist in the preparation of long-range transportation plans and transportation improvement programs, are involved with direct funding of transportation, or provide financial assistance to transit operators. It is also intended for consultants and all those involved in the development and/or review of fiscal constraint documentation.

“Statewide Transportation Planning” in Denver, CO on May 15-16, 2007.
Tuition shall be waived for federal, state and local government employees who work in transportation or related areas. Fee for contractors and consultants is $550.00.
This course is a cooperative effort among the FHWA (both the FHWA Office of Planning and the National Highway Institute), the FTA and NTI. The overall course goal is to provide an overview of the state transportation planning process including tools, methods and best practices. The course covers the Federal regulations and differing state and local requirements, required products of the statewide planning process, and the players and their roles. It also incorporates into the material the major elements of the plan and how evaluation methods and performance measures are used to implement the plan.
The course is structured for transportation planning, programming and project development staffs that are involved with the statewide transportation planning process. The primary target audience includes planners with FHWA/FTA field offices, DOTs, MPOs, Rural/Regional Planning Organizations (RPOs), Regional Development Commissions (RDCs), transit operators. Other participants may include federal resource or regulatory agencies such as Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Lands, and Tribal Governments, engineers and consultants.

“Coordinated Mobility: A Unified Transportation Management Solution” in Denver, CO on June 4-5, 2007.
Tuition shall be waived for federal, state and local government employees who work in transportation or related areas. Fee for contractors and consultants is $300.00.
This course will provide a look at creative approaches to resolving these fragmented systems to a more seamless network with a customer-focused mindset for people with disabilities, elderly, and low-income individuals. Due to demographic shifts, changing job markets, increased pressure to find alternatives to the single occupancy vehicle and suburban and exurban land use patterns, the transportation needs of these populations have changed and increased.
The course is structured for human service professionals, transit providers, brokerage personnel, state agency staff, and transit managers for all of the different services, MPOs staff, and policy makers.

“State and Metropolitan Transportation Programming” in Seattle, WA on June 25-27, 2007.
Tuition shall be waived for federal, state and local government employees who work in transportation or related areas. Fee for contractors and consultants is $450.00.
This course provides instruction on the basic concepts, components, and participants in the transportation programming process. Current and best practices will be incorporated into the program. The two and one-half day program covers the metropolitan and statewide programming processes required under the federal transportation planning regulations.
The course is structured for professional planners and programmers at state departments of transportation, metropolitan planning organizations, local governments, and transit operators and authorities.
