EPA Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator Training Courses
The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) recently announced the development of the MOtor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES). This new emission modeling system will estimate emissions for on-road and non-road mobile sources, cover a broad range of pollutants, and allow multiple scale analysis--from fine-scale analysis to national inventory estimation.
When fully implemented, MOVES will serve as the replacement for MOBILE6 and NON-ROAD for all official analyses associated with regulatory development, compliance with statutory requirements, and national/regional inventory projections.
A draft version of MOVES is now available. The draft model is not approved for use in State Implementation Plans or conformity determinations, but modelers are encouraged to use the model and provide comment to EPA. A final version of MOVES for car and truck emissions is planned for late 2009.
To assist those learning to use Draft MOVES2009, the U.S. EPA and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are scheduling a series of MOVES training sessions at locations around the country. These trainings will include overview information on MOVES and hands-on work with the draft model.
Following is a list of training events that have already been scheduled, with date, location, and contact information where available. Because the trainings include a "hands on" component and space may be limited, you must contact the local training sponsor prior to the training to confirm your participation in a particular training session. The local contact can also provide exact locations and times for the training. Also, attendees must bring their own laptop computers with Draft MOVES2009 already installed.
In many cases, we are still confirming logistical details and local contacts for the trainings. We also list cities and states where we will be giving MOVES training, but do not yet have firm dates. We will update this list as new information becomes available.
