The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has published the implementation notice for the Safe, Accountable, Flexible and Efficient Transportation Equity Act - A Legacy for Users (SAFETEALU) in the Federal Register. In part, this notice includes a request for comment on a new program – The Tribal Transit Program. This new program provides $8million for Fiscal Year 2006, in addition to any non-urbanized area funding that may be provided to Tribes through the State-administered Section 5311, Nonurbanized Area Formula Program. Tribes are intended to be direct FTA recipients of the funding provided in the Tribal Transit Program.

The U.S. Department of Transportation Docket will be open for comment on this notice through January 14, 2006. FTA requests your comment on how the Tribal Transit Program funds should be distributed. An extract from the notice, relating particularly to the Tribal Transit Program and Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP), is provided for your reference.
