Welcome to the Federal Transit Administration, Region 9, where excellent customer service is a top priority. The Region serves 141 grantees in the States of Arizona, California, Hawaii and Nevada, as well as the territories of Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Our Regional Office is located in San Francisco, California with 28 staff members, while our Los Angeles Metropolitan Office has 3 staff members.
FTA Region 9 oversees a total portfolio of $12 billion in federal funding distributed amongst 832 active grants for transit projects and initiatives. Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 was a record-breaking year for our office. In FY 2008, Region IX awarded 367 grants, totaling $2.3 billion. This represents a 45 percent increase over our totals for FY 2007, both in the number of individual grants and the total dollar amount awarded. With the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on February 17, 2009, FTA has significantly expanded its grant programs, and the Region IX Office expects to award approximately double the amount of money in grants that it did in FY 2008.
