Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced that 58 grants totaling $473.3 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) are being awarded for much needed transit improvements throughout the U.S.

“ARRA transportation projects are putting people to work across the country,” said Secretary LaHood.  “President Obama’s investments in jobs and people and a strong transportation infrastructure are providing a solid foundation for strong economic growth.”

Since President Obama signed ARRA into law on Feb. 17, 2009, 221 grants totaling $2.22 billion have been made available for transit improvements throughout the nation.

“These projects put people back to work quickly, improve transportation options for millions and help rebuild the nation’s economy,” said Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff.

ARRA includes $8.4 billion for transit capital improvements.  The law implements the transit formula program related provisions of the ARRA and provides program and grant application requirements for these funds, to be made available through Federal Transit Administration assistance programs.

Specific grant information can be found on the ARRA Grants Digest.
