In FY 1997, Congress provided $22.3 million in Section 5309 New Starts funds to Chicago specifically for transit improvements in the central business district designed to compensate for the canceled central circulator project. Specific measures now under consideration will focus on enhancing access to and from existing elevated and subway rapid transit stations to provide for more efficient management of passenger flows during the morning and evening rush hours.
Status
The $22.3 million in FY 1997 funds are expected to be obligated over the course of the fiscal year.
