The current funding for Federal surface transportation programs, including FTA, has been extended eight (8) times since it was signed in 2005.  A new bill will mark the end of the old program.  The current funding is set to expire on March 31st, 2012. 

Current Funding - SAFETEA-LU

On August 10, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) (Pub. L. 109-59), providing $286.4 billion in guaranteed funding for federal surface transportation programs over five years through FY 2009 (and extended, currently to 2011), including $52.6 billion for federal transit programs – a 46% increase over transit funding guaranteed in TEA-21.
