In September of 2010, Mary Beth Mello became the Regional Administrator for the Region I Office of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). She leads a multi-disciplinary staff in the development and delivery of the FTA's capital, operating and planning programs and initiatives in the six New England States. Ms. Mello also provides technical assistance to transit operators, state, and local officials on a wide range of matters affecting urban and rural transportation systems.
In addition to her responsibilities in Region I, Ms. Mello has been involved in a variety of special assignments during her FTA career. She has been a member of the Strategic Planning Team, the Reauthorization Policy Review Team, the FTA Hiring Process Re-engineering Team, the Baldrige Quality Review Team, the FTA Web Redesign Team and the National Performance Review. She has received numerous awards for her contributions including the USDOT Secretary's Gold Medal as a Team Member on the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Futures Program to educate the future transportation workforce, the USDOT Secretary's Silver Medal, the Boston Women's Transportation Seminar Special Service Award, and the Intelligent Transportation Service Massachusetts Chapter's Member of the Year Award.
She is a board member of ITS Massachusetts and active in the Boston Chapter of the Women's Transportation Seminar.
Ms. Mello is a graduate of Smith College where she received her B.A. Degree in Urban Studies. She also received a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Public Management from Boston University.
