The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, 2009 (ARRA) [Pub. L. 111-5] was signed into law by President Barack Obama on February 17, 2009. ARRA includes appropriations and tax law changes totaling approximately $787 billion to support government wide efforts to stimulate the economy. Goals of the statute include the preservation or creation of jobs and the promotion of an economic recovery, as well as the investment in transportation, environmental protection and other infrastructure providing long-term economic benefits. To carry out its mission, FTA administers a variety of grant programs to serve local communities throughout the United States.

Grants & Financing

FTA funds are available to designated recipients that must be public bodies (i.e. states, cities, towns, regional governments, transit authorities, etc.) with the legal authority to receive and dispense federal funds. The recipients of these grants are responsible for managing their projects in accordance with federal requirements. FTA also conducts oversight reviews to ensure that these requirements are met.
