Newest Information
The current funding for Federal surface transportation programs, including FTA, has been extended seven (7) times since it was signed in 2005. A new bill will mark the end of the old program. Once the House of Representatives and the Senate reconvene after Labor Day, there will be 24 days to introduce and vote into place legislation authorizing surface transportation funding. The current funding is set to expire on September 30th, 2011.
Current Funding - SAFETEA-LU
On August 10, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) (Pub. L. 109-59), providing $286.4 billion in guaranteed funding for federal surface transportation programs over five years through FY 2009 (and extended, currently to 2011), including $52.6 billion for federal transit programs – a 46% increase over transit funding guaranteed in TEA-21.
