Yolo County residents will continue to see improvements to their bus facility as a result of a recent $886,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

“As the demand for transit in Yolo County continues to grow, the Obama Administration continues to provide federal funding to meet that need,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.

The grant, awarded to Yolo County Transportation District on May 12, will go toward the third phase of transit agency’s bus facility improvement project, which includes maintenance shop upgrades, an additional 5,000 to 6,000 square feet of space to accommodate drivers and other operational staff, a fueling station, employee parking, and improvements to the grounds. The total project, estimated at $5.9 million, is expected to be complete in 2011.

“An effective, efficient transit system is an important component of a vibrant economy, connecting workers to jobs, shoppers to stores, and residents to vital services,” said FTA Administrator Peter Rogoff. “This grant will help Yolo County Transportation District to more effectively do its job to bring people and services together.”

In Fiscal Year 2010, the FTA will provide $10.4 billion in federal funding for transit to states and local communities across the U.S. The funds announced today are part of the FTA’s capital investment program that provides financial assistance for buses and bus facilities.
