Dear Colleague:

I would like to invite you to attend one of the FY 2001 Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Financial Management Systems Seminars. The feedback we get from FTA grant recipients has continued to be very positive.

During FY 2001, FTA will conduct one seminar in each of the following cities: Philadelphia; Washington, DC; and Denver. These seminars are a part of our ongoing oversight efforts to enhance financial management systems throughout the transit industry, consistent with the objectives of our Financial Management Oversight program.

The two-day seminar provides a forum for assessing financial and operating risks as well as learning about good internal control concepts and the importance of the internal audit departments. Working together, we can help ensure a better understanding of how to establish and maintain financial management systems that meet the requirements of the Common Rule (49 CFR, Part 18). In addition, FTA is enhancing the financial capacity module of the seminar to include guidance on how to prepare a financial plan.

FTA encourages chief financial officers; internal auditors; and financial, project and grant managers to take advantage of these seminars. Attendance at each seminar is limited to approximately 50 participants. To ensure attendance at the seminar of your choice, please complete and return the registration form prior to the deadlines.

Sincerely,
Nuria I. Fernandez
Acting Administrator
