How to Use the Bus
|
|
Locating a Bus Stop
To find your closest bus stop, check your route map first. It will tell you which streets your bus travels. Then look for the bus stop signs or posts along the bus route. They are located every few blocks.
It is a good idea to arrive at the bus stop at least five minutes before the time shown on the timetable.
Make sure that you're standing next to a bus stop sign where the bus driver can see you
Getting on the Bus
Signal to the bus operator as the bus approaches. Check the front destination sign to be sure you're getting on the right bus. If you are not sure, ask the bus operator. He or she will be happy to assist you.
Try not to board the bus while other passengers are still getting off.
Bus drivers cannot make change, so please have the exact fare ready when you board. The fare structure is shown on your schedule.
Remember that specified seats behind the operator are reserved for senior citizens and people with disabilities. Some buses with wheelchair lifts also have designated seats, these seats must be made available when appropriately requested.
Allow extra time when the weather is bad, since bus systems cannot be responsible when weather or other circumstances beyond their control cause unavoidable delays.
For Your Safety and Comfort
If the bus you are on has standing room only, please try to move toward the rear to allow others to board.
Be sure that children are seated securely or are firmly being held by an adult.
Keep your head and arms inside bus windows at all times.
Always stay behind the yellow or white standee line at the front of the bus.
Be particularly careful when boarding or leaving the bus in bad weather. Use the handrails for support.
Do not eat, drink, smoke, or play a radio or tape without earphones, on the bus.
In the event of an emergency, notify the bus operator immediately and follow his or her instructions.
Getting Off the Bus
As the bus nears your stop, pull the cord or push the strip next to the windows. This informs the driver you wish to get off at the next stop. If you aren't sure where to get off the bus, ask the bus driver to call out your stop. Drivers are very conscientious and will do their best to help. Exit the bus through the rear doors. This will leave the front area clear for people who are getting on the bus.
Transferring To Another Bus
Bus to Bus: Ask the bus driver for a transfer when you pay your fare on the first bus. When you board your second bus, hand your transfer to the driver. If you need the transfer for yet another bus, tell the driver. He or she will return it to you.
