What is this?

DOT & DisabilityInfo.gov

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is one of 22 federal agencies that are working together to support a vital online resource called DisabilityInfo.gov.  DisabilityInfo.gov (www.disabilityinfo.gov) is a one-stop federal Web site designed to offer people with disabilities access to the information and resources they need to live independently and fully participate in their communities. The site offers a broad range of valuable information, not only for people with disabilities, but also public and private transportation providers, state departments of transportation and federal and state government offices of civil rights working to protect the rights of people with disabilities nationwide.

DisabilityInfo.gov is organized into subject areas that include benefits, civil rights, community life, education, employment, health, housing, technology and transportation. The transportation section of DisabilityInfo.gov contains useful information on public transportation trip-planning resources for people with disabilities and older adults; human service transportation in rural and urban areas; emergency preparedness; a database of accessible fixed-route and “on demand” transportation services; and laws such as the Air Carrier Access Act that protect the air travel rights of people with disabilities. DisabilityInfo.gov also now has a State & Local Resource Map to make it easier to find transportation resources in your community.

DisabilityInfo.gov offers a free subscription service where you can sign up to receive DisabilityInfo Connection, the site’s quarterly newsletter, as well as other e-mail alerts covering information tailored to your individual interests. Visit this link to subscribe and begin receiving updates on new information that has been added to the site.  If you would like to place a link to DisabilityInfo.gov on your website, please click on this link
