Trade Promotion

The International Mass Transportation Program (IMTP) carries out trade missions and other trade-related events.

Examples:

  • September 24-28, 2007, Opportunity to Showcase Transit Technologies in India .  Excellent opportunity for  transit suppliers and manufactureres to showcase their capabilities as well as  meet the  Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM ) cities and states.  Read More
  • July 15-28, 2007, IMTP, with the US and Foreign Commercial Service (USFCS) in Shanghai, sponsored a reverse trade mission for senior transportation officials from Nanjing, China. Read More
  • In July 2000, nine U.S. companies visited Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia to explore export opportunities.
  • In August 2000, the IMTP participated in an ITS America trade mission to Argentina, Chile and Brazil.
  • In August 2001, 10 U.S. companies were escorted on a trade mission to Thailand, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong.
  • In December 2001, the IMTP organized a trade mission to Mexico.
  • The IMTP created U.S. pavilions at the International Union of Public Transport’s City Transportation Exhibitions in London in 2001 and in Madrid in 2003.

  • In collaboration with the US and Foreign Commercial Service (USFCS) of the US Embassy in Beijing and the American Public Transportation Association, the Federal Transit Administration’s (FTA) conducted its second Public Transportation Trade Mission to China from April 16 through 29, 2006.   • FTA Administrator James S. Simpson led a public transportation trade mission to India from September 22-30, 2008.  The cities on this itinerary included New Delhi (September 22-23); Visakhapatnam (September 24-25); Hyderabad (September 26-27); and Mumbai (September 28-30).  For more information, please read the announcement.

In partnership with the American Public Transportation Association and the Department of Commerce, these trade missions and events provide participating companies unparalleled access to senior decision-makers in these foreign markets as well as one-on-one meetings with potential customers.

Current Trade Missions
Federal Transit Administration Deputy Administrator Sherry Little will lead a trade and fact-finding mission to China from December 3-12, 2008.  The itinerary will include (a) Beijing; (b) Shanghai and Hangzhou; and conclude with (c) Hong Kong and Macau, sites of some of the world’s fastest-developing and efficient public transportation systems.   For more information, please read the announcement.
