ADA Compliance for Major Capital Projects Webinar
REGION 8 BULLETIN NO: 2013-17
Subject: ADA Compliance for Major Capital Projects Webinar – Path of Travel is not just sidewalks
We invite you to participate in one of several upcoming webinars on ADA compliance. This webinar is specifically to help grantees who have existing rail systems requiring ongoing improvements/alterations and grantees constructing a new rail or streetcar system or other public transit facility. This webinar is structured to help you understand your responsibility to ensure ADA Compliance. One of the most often overlooked aspects of ADA compliance is the circulation of persons with disabilities within the facility. Even today, the location of elements such as elevators and ramps (and sometimes whether or not to provide them at all) is often an afterthought – one that can lead to project and funding delays.
This webinar will provide technical assistance to help transit systems and members of the community understand how to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in terms of providing an accessible path of travel in new construction and alterations. This webinar will focus on important factors involving accessible path of travel requirements under the (ADA) that affect the design and construction of new transit facilities and alterations made to existing facilities. Topics will include accessible routes within a facility, existing site conditions and what is considered an “alteration”.
To RSVP to the webinar please visit our website at http://www.fta.dot.gov/civilrights/12885.html
The webinar is titled “Construct, repair, alter, or rehabilitate your capital assets – don’t forget ADA”. The Webinar will be held from 2:00pm – 3:30pm EST on Thursdays: December 12, and January 16, 2014.
