Creating Section 508 Compliant Documents and Presentations

What is this?

All published documents (including graphics) must comply with and be accessible in accordance with current requirements/interpretation of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as Amended. All documentation must be approved by FTA before distribution to the public and prepared in a format specified by FTA. Recipients of federal funds are responsible for consulting sources such as the Access Board and the Section 508 website http://www.section508.gov/.  Please read more about Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act as amended in 1998 on our Accessibility page.

Excel files are, by their highly organized nature, most often Section 508 compliant.  Please be aware that the primary requirment for producing a compliant document is a logical document structure.  Any file type can be badly structured.  The following are links to documents that have been used in training others to create Section 508 compliant documents such as ones you may need to satisfy Reporting Requirements:
