Johnson County Transit – "The JO" – has been providing public transportation services to much of Johnson County, downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas since 1980. The JO operates five days a week with most routes running during peak morning and afternoon times. The JO also operates a demand response service known as Special Edition. The JO has over 100 drivers who drive approximately 100 coaches and cutaway vans. The JO vehicles travel approximately 8,300 miles every day.
ARRA funds were used to purchase one 40-ft. low-floor bus. The vehicle was delivered and deployed into service in August 2009. ARRA funds will be used to improve the Murray Nolte Transit Center by expanding its bus canopy to accommodate 15 additional buses.
