Dear Transit Professional:
The Federal Transit Administration has determined that the customer information signage produced by CHK America, Inc., is eligible for federal funding. The signage qualifies as a "Transit Enhancement" and therefore is an eligible expense under FT A Circular 9030, pages 1ll_15 and 111_] 6 dated May 1, 2010. The relevant section of Circular 9030 reads as follows:
- (1) Historic preservation, rehabilitation, and operation ofhistoric public transportation buildings, structures, and facilities (including historic bus and railroad facilities). Note that ifthe facility is not in active transit use, operation is eligible only as a transit enhancement within the 1 % set aside. The term "transit enhancement" means, with respect to any project or an area to be served by a project, projects that are designed to enhance public transportation services or use and that are physically or functionally related to transit facilities.
The following eligible public transportation projects and project elements meet the enhancement expenditure requirement: FT A C 9030.1 D; DATE 51112010; III-16.
(3)Landscaping and other scenic beautification, including tables, benches, trash receptacles, and street lights;
(5)Pedestrian access and walkways;
(6)Bkycle access, including bicycle storage facilities and installing equipment for transporting bicycles on public transportation vehicles;
(7)Public transportation connections to parks within the recipient's public transportation service area;
(9) Enhanced access for people with disabilities to public transportation. Enhancement projects or elements ofprojects designed to enhance access for people with disabilities must go beyond the requirements ofthe ADA.
