Description

The Austin Transportaton Study (ATS), which is the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Austin metropolitan area, has adopted a long range transportation plan calling for over 50 miles of fixed guideway transit to serve the area's future mobility needs. Funding has been programmed by the MPO in the Transportation Improvement Program for development of the first leg of the fixed guideway transit system.

Status

The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Capital Metro), ATS and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) are currently conducting a Major Investment Study (MIS) to identify the highest priority corridor for fixed guideway transit development and adopt a locally preferred strategy. The MIS is scheduled for completion in early 1997.
